Sometimes a journey takes twists and turns you could never imagine, but usually you end up exactly where you’re supposed to be. Our story starts with the a couple of high school kids in love and nearly 20 years later, we are certain we are exactly where we are supposed to be… at Outlier Crossfit. We have a sweet, strong, hardheaded, sassy 5 year old daughter named Jasmine aka Jas, a gentle German Shepherd, Yogi Bear, and a loving jerk of cat, Macy. And over the years we have grown and collected a crossfit family that is second to none. Some of our crossfit family ended up at other boxes along the way, but we always find ways to keep in touch and stay connected. One of our best decisions as a family was joining Outlier Crossfit in summer 2016. When our old box closed, we chose Outlier because of the incredible humans and when we decided to take on ownership of Outlier, we again chose it because of the people: the families, the parents, the grandparents, the accountants, lawyers, students, FBI agents, first responders, teachers and all the hardworking humans that impact our lives everyday in and OUT of the gym. We couldn’t be happier or more proud to support the Outlier community.
A little about each of us:
Jeremy Allen
At first glance, I am a big, bearded, heavy weight lifting, serious guy. I’m also a dad, husband and video game nerd many people call Jerbear. I was the captain of the basketball team in high school and recruited to play at UCSD. Instead, I chose engineering and the time to travel to UCLA to support Amanda who played softball. I graduated with a degree in structural engineering and worked as a structural engineer for 12 years. That journey is ending and I am excited to manage and coach at Outlier full-time. I have always been a student of crossfit and especially enjoy programming. One thing that has formed my particular crossfit journey is that I have had four knee surgeries. Crossfit has helped me gain strength and stabilization that I needed, but there are also challenges for me and I have to be conscious of how my knees feel. I’m no spring chicken. I look forward to helping all my athletes listen to their bodies and work through any injuries or physical challenges they face in a safe way. Outside the gym, I love to hike and have peaked Mt. Whitney 3 times. I am a third generation eagle scout and reigning cornhole champion! When you see me around the gym, don’t hesitate to stop me for anything. I look forward to getting to know you all better and helping everyone have fun while getting a little bit fitter.
Amanda Allen
Nearly 7 years ago I started crossfit. I missed my glory days as a softball athlete at UCLA. I was also a few years into a career as a business and real estate lawyer, working long hours sitting at a desk. The stress was taking a toll on me mentally and physically. When Jeremy and I started crossfit in 2011, we realized quickly that this was the sport and community for us. I took a nutrition class at our first crossfit and we changed the way we ate. For me crossfit is about living a healthier active lifestyle so I can continue my work as a lawyer and support my family. After working in big law, I started my own law practice in 2014. In 2016 I founded Enrich, a coworking community for lawyers. In 2018, we bought Outlier Crossfit! For me, this entrepreneurship journey has always been about leading a happier healthier life. I don’t have any dreams of going to the crossfit games except to cheer on my favorite athlete and nerd out on all things crossfit. My role at the gym will mostly be behind the scenes. I look forward to planning some special events and supporting you all in reaching your goals inside and outside the gym.
