Every New Year, millions of people make resolutions to lose weight or get fit. And every year, just as many people fail to follow through because they don’t have the skills, motivation or assistance to make their fitness dreams a reality. This is where the amazing staff at Outlier CrossFit can help. If you live in the San Diego, Mission Gorge or Allied Gardens areas, our exceptional trainers have the experience, knowledge and skills to get your body back into shape and looking like its always been that way. Getting into shape is never easy, but here are 10 tips to help you get started and stay strong in your resolutions:
1) Get Started With A Realistic Goal:
Although we may want that killer body from the cover of a swimsuit magazine, it may not be a realistic goal for all of us. Pick an image of a healthy you and focus on being fit, rather than skinny or slim. Ultimately, CrossFit is about being strong and healthy.
2) Don’t Be Intimidated:
Everyone needs to start somewhere. It can be hard to simply join a gym and start working out. At Outlier CrossFit, we know everyone is at different levels of fitness, so we offer four different options to suit individual fitness needs. Don’t expect to be at a top level if you have just started working out again. There will always be CrossFit clients that are in better shape than you, and some that are not as fit as you. Focus on your own health and fitness, rather than how you compare to others.
3) Know The Fundamentals:
Each person that decides to start CrossFit needs to know the fundamentals for their safety as well as others. Our fundamental courses ensure that you know the moves and how to properly perform them. This ensures both your CrossFit success, and that you will avoid injuries whenever possible.
4) Don’t Be Afraid Of The One-On-One Fundamentals Course:
Here at Outlier CrossFit, we offer four one-on-one sessions with a trainer to guide you through the most commonly used techniques. During these sessions, you will receive comprehensive and critical training on everything from basic squats to Olympic lifting. More importantly, your work-outs will be customized based on your goals, fitness level and needs. You trainer will also help you learn more about nutrition and diet so you can better prepare your body for fitness and success with CrossFit.
5) Reward Yourself:
CrossFit workouts are tough and many clients know the value of little achievements when they complete the workouts. Don’t go crazy, but a little treat after a long and grueling week of session can be a nice reminder of how hard you have worked.
6) Try A Group Fundamentals Classes:
Our group fundamental classes are essentially the same as our individual fundamentals course except they are coached in a group setting. Many clients find that the group setting allows for better accountability and motivation.
7) Eat Properly:
CrossFit workouts can be long and tough. Consequently, proper diet and nutrition are very important in ensuring that you have enough strength and energy to finish the work-outs. Outlier CrossFit offers reasonably priced sessions on diet and nutrition for those members that have questions and want to take advantage of a healthier diet.
8) Try An Olympic Lifting Class:
Outlier CrossFit offers Olympic lifting refresher courses to help you gain more confidence in Olympic-style weight lifting. This option offers two one-on-one sessions with a certified Olympic lifting trainer. During your sessions, you will focus on improving your lifting skills and maximizing your workouts.
9) Test Out Of Beginning Classes:
If you’re transferring from another gym or have been a CrossFit member for a few months, you may be able to move intoa regular group class. Testing out is an hour long session to verify your ability to safely and properly perform all fundamental movements from gymnastics, to power lifting or Olympic lifting. If you are able demonstrate that you can do all moves safely, you can transfer. If not, you may be required to participate in some additional Olympic Lifting Fundamental classes.
10) Listen To Your Instructors:
With many years of training and experience, the instructors at Outlier CrossFit know what they are doing and how you should be doing it. Listen to them when they give instruction. They have your health, success and safety in mind at all times.
11) Encourage Yourself And Others
Encouragement is one of the cornerstones of our practice here at Outlier CrossFit. After years of experience with training all kinds of clients, we find that a positive and encouraging environment helps nurture exceptional skills and help you move to the next level of fitness. So encourage your fellow CrossFitters and watch as they help encourage you to a fitter body and successful completion of your New Year’s Resolutions!
