This wednesday we are going to talk about something new and exciting we are going to be bringing to Outlier. Many of you are aware of the Hybrid program we have here at the gym. We program accessory work that is geared to help people improve either in Barbell proficiency, gymnastic skill or improved cardiovascular ability. Monday through friday there is homework designed to work with the classes to give people focused guided extra credit work. The overlying goal of the program is to help our members become better at the different modalities of CrossFit so they can get more and more out of the program we offer. If that means they place higher on the whiteboard that is good. If the extra work helps someone work off some extra pounds or add some lean muscle mass, that is also great! If someone that likes to compete either at local competitions like the Outlier Competition Series or in the CrossFit Open, this is also a possible outcome of being a part of the Hybrid program here at Outlier. Coming on April 22nd from 1pm – 4pm we are going to expand what members of the Hybrid program have access to as a part of the membership, this is going to the our new Hybrid Performance Camp!
These camps are going to run for about 3 hours at a time and will be offered about every six weeks. Each camp will have focus on a few movements that will be discussed in lecture/video breakdown then we will practice these movements followed by video review of the attendees. The first movement of the upcoming Hybrid Performance Camp is going to be the snatch. We will review and discuss what points of the movement often offer trouble for people and how to better our understanding and how to overcome these hurdles. The second movement is going to be muscle ups. We will go over drills and skill to build a solid foundation for reliable muscle ups. This camp is focused on people that have 0-2 muscle ups. What we will be teaching will be focused for you so when we program muscle ups in a class we have a larger and larger crowd around the high rings. If you know how the movement works and you learn how to manage the movement, WODs that have muscle ups can be very doable if you understand the difference between going to max muscle ups and pacing them out. Which leads us into the last part of the camp. This is going to be the “training theory” portion. For our first camp we are going to talk about pacing in training. We will discuss some of the science of how the body physically produces energy and how that comes into play for different CrossFit workouts and test. It isn’t hard for someone that has a max set of 3 muscle ups to beat someone with a max of 6 if the person with 3 never fails reps. The days will end with a fun throwdown WOD that puts everything we have discussed and reviewed to the test!
The Hybrid Performance Camp is designed to help our members get more and more and expand their ability within the programming here at Outlier and what is available in the offerings for you to test what your body can truly do! Members of the Hybrid program can attend these camps free of charge as a part of their Hybrid membership. Non-Hybrid members will be charged a fee of $40 to attend. From camp to camp we will change the topics and movements to keep things fresh and to offer a wide array of knowledge to our attendees! We are looking forward to seeing lots of you there and get the learning happening!
