This month we are featuring not one but two amazing members that we have here at Outlier. They are one of the several early morning power couples that we have here! This month we are shining the light on Janet and MK. Janet can regularly be seen with the 0530 crew while her other half is a regular at 0630…til somewhere around 745-815ish… depending on how much you get her chatting!
Both ladies have been doing CrossFit for over 9 years. They have been a part of several gyms in their CrossFit careers which began in Honolulu, Hawaii. For those of you that don’t know, MK took 5th Place at the 2010 CrossFit Games in the Master’s Class (50+) and 13th Place at the 2011 CrossFit Games in the 50-55 Master’s Division. You can download a video from the following link and watch MK competing in the final WOD of 2010 which was Fran (http://games2010.crossfit.com/blog/2010/08/video-masters-final-event,748/). In addition to being a part of classes, it is very common to see both of them doing extra mobility or extra accessory work after the classes are done.
A lot of the time we showcase members and talk about how much energy they bring to a class and how much they make a class better. Janet and MK represent a type of member that does this just like any other featured member. They do it in a very different way though. It isn’t always the loudest member or the one that cracks the most jokes that makes the community great. Both Janet and MK are the type of member that tends to keep to themselves. They come in with purpose and focus. They always know how they want to approach the workout in order to get the most benefit out of it. They have their routine that they love being able to go through. This doesn’t mean that they don’t like the others in class. It just means that when they are here they are here for work. I would say that I fall into the same category when I am training with classes. Consistency and good energy is what matters with a CrossFit community. Sometimes people think the quiet folk don’t like the rest of the class. I can tell you from personal experience the the quiet ones in the corners sometimes appreciate a place like our gym the most. Don’t be afraid to say hello to Janet or MK next time you see them in class. They really are some of the nicest and most interesting people in our gym!
