Hi everyone! Most of the time the gym is a bit crazy, full of laughs, jokes and lighthearted fun. Today we want to ask for your help with something that is a bit more serious.
One of our members has been undergoing treatment for ALL (leukemia) since 2012. He finished treatment in December and had big plans for this year. Unfortunately, he has relapsed, meaning the cancer is back, and he is now under treatment in preparation for a bone marrow transplant. Bone marrow transplants aren’t an easy undertaking and finding a match is just the beginning of the ordeal. For Nick, there was no match in the national registry and he will be receiving a transplant from one of his parents (the closest they could do with all things considered).
Giving bone marrow isn’t nearly as complicated as you might think, and you only actually give your bone marrow if you match with someone. The process to get on the donor list is even simpler. It is literally just a cheek swab, no needles blood or pain! Click here for FAQs about marrow donation.
We are going to be hosting an awareness workout and bone marrow drive on Saturday April 23 from 08:30-11:30. We will have workout heats starting every 30 minutes and you can get more information about becoming a potential donor or even have your cheek swabbed and get on the list. Regardless of your position on becoming a potential donor, we would love to have you come in that day and show some love for Nick!
