Registration has now opened for the 2015 Halloween Throwdown hosted at Outlier CrossFit on October 31. The competition is open to both male and female intermediate and advanced individual athletes. This will be the second competition hosted at Outlier CrossFit and it will be better than ever, guaranteed to bring out your inner beast.
The competition will be structured to run from 8am-3:30pm on October 31st allowing each and every one of us to continue with our festivities, whatever they may be afterwards. The breakdown of workouts will consist of THREE WODs of various movements and time domains in addition to TWO FLOATER workouts that will be ongoing throughout the day. The floater workouts will be a simple test of skill or power to showcase what athletes are capable of in a controlled setting when fatigue and time are not a domain.
We chose to release the floaters first in an effort to give people time to really practice their skills and learn new movements in order to maximize their performance. We want to see what each person is capable of in these workouts, not as a matter of luck, but as a matter of effort and hard work.
FLOATER 1: Max Freestanding Handstand Hold
· Athletes must begin their handstand with both hands in a box measuring 6 feet long and 3 feet wide.
· The timer begins with the athletes feet leave the ground and the timer stops when either the athlete’s hand touch a line or leave the box or any part of the athlete’s body other than the palms touches the ground.
· The athlete will have three attempts to record the longest time.
FLOATER 2: Max Vertical Jump
· Athletes will be at a stand-still on the ground, and while keeping feet underneath the hips will jump for max height and mark with their hand their height on a vertec.
· Jump height will be measured by first measuring the height of the tip of the athletes middle finger when standing straight and reaching overhead fully extended and subtracting that height from the max height reached during the jump
· No running starts or foot movement is allowed during the jump. The feet must stay firmly planted when contracting down.
In an effort to bring the most out of every athlete, we will make not only movement standard videos, but also instruction videos that provide tips on the two floater movements for best results.
The two floater workouts will be ongoing throughout the day. Floater 1 will be available from 8-12 and floater two will be available from 12-3. IT IS THE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE ATHLETE TO REPORT ON THEIR OWN TIME TO COMPLETE THE FLOATERS. Sign ups will be available upon check in to reserve a time for the floaters if desired. Failure to complete a floater will not be a disqualification but will result in zero points for the workout.
The other three workouts will be scheduled throughout the day and heat times will be released upon closing of registration. Dates of workout releases are as follows
