Summer is coming to San Diego faster than you think! Here at Outlier CrossFit, we’re getting ready for an epic summer and we want you to join us. June 1 we are kicking off a nutrition and fitness challenge at the gym. The focus will be on eating WHOLE FOODS, drinking plenty of water and getting your workouts in!
The 6 week challenge is just long enough that you’ll really see the difference when you stick with it, but also ends in time for you to relax and enjoy your summer. We understand that some of you will have travel plans, special events, etc during the challenge. That is OK. There is NEVER a perfect time to start a challenge. Do you best in the 6 weeks allotted for the challenge and you will STILL GET RESULTS.
How it Works:
There are 3 categories for which you earn points on a daily basis. You will report your total points each week to the gym leader board. At the end of 6 weeks, the person with the MOST points wins. We will also be doing a benchmark WOD at the beginning and end of the challenge. The person with the most improvement over 6 weeks (percentage decrease in time to complete) will be the benchmark winner.
For 6 weeks, you will follow a whole foods based eating program designed at eliminating sugar cravings. All processed and refined foods are eliminated, as well as anything with a high glycemic index. A high glycemic index creates an insulin response in the body. Insulin controls your blood sugar. By constantly having insulin responses in the body your blood sugar goes up and down (feelings of high and low) and your body goes into storage mode when insulin is released (storing excess sugar as fat). The plan we will be following helps to regulate blood sugar (and in turn how you feel).
Hydration is also essential to success. Often people eat when they are actually thirsty. Ensuring that you get enough water on a consistent basis will help your body function better and help you feel better. 64oz is the minimum we are going to ask that you drink in a day. If you’re doing an intense workout, it’s hot, you’ll be outside for large portions of time, etc. then we recommend you definitely drink MORE WATER!
WORK OUT! Sometimes that is easier said than done. Rest days are important so we are only going to be giving workout credit for 5 days out of the week. Those 5 days are up to you. You don’t have to do CrossFit at the gym for the workout to count. You do however have to make it a workout. Playing 18 holes of golf counts IF you walk the course. If you’re in a cart, not so much… Use your judgment on this one!
How to Sign Up
If you’re ready to commit to the 6 week challenge, AWESOME! It’s a $30 buy-in. Putting money on the line will help you stay accountable (as well as the support from your gym friends and coaches) and force you to try. It also allows you to be rewarded for your hard work. We will be giving back cash to the winners for most points and benchmark improvement. If you don’t win for benchmark or points, you can still win by personal success! Everyone that commits to and follows through with this challenge is a winner.
