This month’s featured athlete is a part of one of the many power couples we have at the gym. This month we feature, Justyna H., for a handful of reasons! She is a regular attendee of the morning 0830 crew. When I first met Justyna you could tell she wasn’t afraid to come in and give her workouts everything she had to offer that day. Her and Allan (her better half) would come in a little early and do some pre-class mobility and get prepped. The main thing that I would say that stood out to me then and what is a stark contrast to now is her attitude to strength and being excited about getting more weight on the barbell.
It wasn’t too far in the past that Justyna was in the group that wanted to keep the weights light because she felt she just needed to focus on cardio because if she added too much weight to the bar she would get “bulky and too big.” Somewhere over the past 5-6 months and a planned family reunion trip for the holidays that also includes working out with some family members at a CrossFit gym she has found her love for getting stronger and challenging herself. It is fairly common for Justyna to up the weight on metcons to make sure she gets the “RX” next to her name. Even if it means that she may be a little slower in the class. We just completed the CrossFit Total and she hit new personal best on her lifts and the total!
It isn’t just her love of getting stronger that makes me want to spotlight her. If you have ever been in a class with Justyna you know that she is a ball of energy and is always up to chat and hang out. Which is just as much a key part of being an amazing member as the love for the training. She always adds to the positive vibes of the gym when she is in it or at one of our social events!
