Today we get another opportunity to focus and highlight someone that is a part of our amazing community for what they add to it. This month we are going to highlight Sophia C. She has been doing this crazy CrossFit thing for about 2 years now and she has made incredible gains along the way. She started off as a regular attendee of the community free class at her original gym and took a while to dive into the deep end and become a member. She didn’t have a background in athletics and had a fair amount of mobility work she needed to handle. That didn’t deter her from becoming one of the most regular members in the gym. She took the challenges she had and has steadily chipped away at them. This past CrossFit Open, 4 out of 5 of the WODs had movements or weights she had never done before. She didn’t let that stop her from getting those weeks done in the RX’d category though. In addition to Sophia’s can do attitude, she is a great example of the community that we have here, she is friends with most everyone she sees in classes. She does tend to be one of the class wallflowers which is a great balance to some of our fantastic more voicetress members. Another reason we are featuring Sophia this month is for her hard work after she had an ankle surgery this past month. For the past 3 weeks she has hopped in with her crutches and giant ankle boot and followed the coach’s advice for workouts to keep her going strong through her recovery. Working through a serious medical issue like recovering from ankle surgery can be difficult. The exercises you’re allowed to do aren’t nearly as fun and fulfilling as the normal barbell lifts we do daily. Even a daily dose of about a thousand different leg circles and other pilates-esq drills you can see Sophia working hard and earning her place on the Committed Club Roster! Keep up the great work Sophia!
Just remember that if you want to say hi and congratulate her, don’t shorten her name to Sophie….that’s what you name small dogs according to Sophia!
